Augusta University Health pulmonologist are involved in the prevention and treatment of all respiratory diseases, including:

We strive to provide a comprehensive clinical and educational service, offering a wide range of outpatient services including primary care to sub-specialty medicine. We specialize in the health care of adults on a primary and referral basis. The medicine practice site services are designed to follow patients through a variety of health care, we have a:

  • Certified Cystic Fibrosis Center
  • Training in advanced procedures to open airways

Augusta University is a Cystic Fibrosis Center providing care to CF patients of all ages. We are certified by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as a patient care, teaching and research facility, and follow all established clinical care guidelines to guarantee the highest quality of care to patient. We offer both consultation and primary care to CF patients.

Our center has:

  • Pulmonologists who specialize in cystic fibrosis and are supported by nurse practitioners, nurses, and other team members who specialize in CF.
  • Collaborative and multidisciplinary teams which enables us to offer the best possible care to both new and established patients. Our team includes gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, otolaryngologists, surgeons, respiratory therapists, dietitians, medical social workers, nurses, and pharmacists.
  • Adult CF patients receive care through the Internal Medicine and Pulmonology subspecialty clinics.
  • Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis services are provided to infants, children and adolescents through the Pediatric Clinic.

Besides the outpatient clinics and inpatient management services for cystic fibrosis patients, other available services include:

  • Pediatric and Internal Medicine
  • Pulmonary Function Testing
  • Nutritional assessments
  • Respiratory therapists
  • Physical therapists and other medical subspecialists

The standard of diagnosis continues to be analysis of the chloride content of sweat collected by the Gibson-Cooke pilocarpine iontophoresis method

Augusta University Health is able to offer patients who suffer with emphysema the Endobronchial Valve Procedure to help restore air flow. This procedure is extremely helpful to patients having difficulty breathing. A Zephyr Valve is placed inside the airway using a minimally invasive procedure and patients are able to take fuller deeper breaths immediately.
