Augusta University Health’s Orthopaedic Department is the Augusta River Region’s leader in shoulder replacement and complex shoulder reconstruction. We treat complex shoulder problems caused by aging, injury, dislocations and degenerative disease in patients from all over Georgia and the southeastern United States.

Augusta University Health is home to a shoulder surgeon who is recognized nationally and internationally as a pioneer of surgical procedures to repair shoulder injuries from dislocations. Together with our orthopaedic team, they provide the highest quality care for patient by offering:

  • Ground-breaking surgeries: Our expert shoulder surgeon has trained with experts from around the world to become a leader in advanced shoulder reconstruction and joint replacement techniques. While in the Army, Dr Parada cared for soldiers from across the country who needed reconstructions due to dislocations.
  • Advanced procedures: We use the latest shoulder surgery techniques to treat our patients with complex shoulder injuries including Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS). We are the only hospital in Georgia to routinely use CT Scan-guided technology in the operating room for increased accuracy of shoulder replacements. Dr Parada also routinely cares for patients who need a Latarjet procedure or reconstruction of the socket with bone graft due to multiple dislocations.
  • Dedicated programs: Along with taking care of patients with rotator cuff injuries and arthritis, the Shoulder Team also cares for our athletes with shoulder issues, and patients of all ages, whether or not they need surgery.

Pain, stiffness or problems in the shoulder joints can happen for many different reasons, including age, injury, or overuse.  We treat patients who suffer with:

  • Arthritis
  • Dislocation or arthritis of the sternoclavicular joint (joint between the collarbone and chest bone)
  • Shoulder Fractures (humerus, scapula, clavicle)
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Paralysis or nonfunctioning muscles around the shoulder
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Previously failed rotator cuff surgery or other failed shoulder surgery
  • Shoulder dislocations
  • Shoulder separations

We rely on well-researched and individualized shoulder techniques to relieve pain and restore function so that you can return to an active and pain-free lifestyle. Treatments include:

  • Rotator cuff or standard shoulder joint replacement surgery, caused by arthritis, rotator cuff tears, shoulder fracture or injury.
  • Reverse shoulder replacement surgery- If you have lost your rotator cuff muscles due to wear and tear, injury or a past failed surgery. We offer an advanced technique that uses a reverse ball and socket prosthesis to restore stability and function.
  • Shoulder resurfacing
  • Tendon transfers
  • Surgeries on the scapula, or shoulder blade
  • Shoulder rehabilitation, after your procedure you will begin regular physical therapy sessions with Physical Therapists who are specially trained to rehabilitate shoulders.
