P. Alex Mabe, Ph.D. received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. Currently, he is a professor at the Medical College of Georgia/Augusta University. His publications include over 60 articles/chapters/abstracts in the areas of clinical and pediatric psychology as well as recovery-oriented mental health care. He has made numerous presentations at national and international professional meetings on topics related to behavioral medicine, recovery-oriented mental health care, child-pediatric psychology, and parent training. For five 3-year grant cycles, he was the principal investigator on psychology workforce development projects funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Graduate Psychology Education Program. He served as the Director of Project GREAT (Georgia Recovery-based Educational Approach to Treatment) helping to design and implement workshops and recovery-oriented practice tools for the Medical College of Georgia/Augusta University as well as for other public mental health services in the state of Georgia. In 2012, Project GREAT and the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior were the recipients of the American College of Psychiatrists’ annual award for Creativity in Psychiatric Education. From 1996 to 2020, he served as the Training Director of Medical College of Georgia-Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center Psychology Internship. From 2000 to 2020 he served as the Chief of the Section of Psychology within the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior at the Medical College of Georgia/Augusta University. He was the Attending on the Child Psychiatry Consultation Service for the Children’s Hospital of Georgia for 38 years. For 39 years he has continued to provide clinical child psychological services at the Medical College of Georgia. Currently, he provides consulting for the AU Cancer Center and counseling services for the AU Employee Faculty Assistance Program
