Adult rehabilitation also provides specialized services to patients for:

  • Augmentative and alternative communication devices: We work with patients that need computer devices to supplement or replace speaking.
  • Mechanical diagnosis and therapy: A comprehensive assessment and treatment method that identifies the best movement patterns to decrease mechanical pain.
  • Modified barium swallow studies: We take an x-ray of a patient swallowing to view muscle mechanisms that may not be working. Recommendations are made for appropriate techniques, exercises, or diet changes to help improve swallowing.
  • Return-to-sport testing: Data-driven strength and agility testing to determine the readiness and confidence of a patient to be able to return to their sport.
  • Wheelchair assessments: We offer evaluations to patients requiring assistive mobility equipment. Our physical therapists work with wheelchair vendors to ensure optimal fitting for comfort, providing patients with safer mobility to function in their home environment.

Adult rehabilitation focuses on helping you to keep, develop, and regain the ability to engage in life activities that are most meaningful to you, we do this through:

  • Physical Therapy: We provide in- and outpatient physical therapy for patients who are experiencing pain or abnormal physical function with movement.

  • Occupational Therapy: Our OTs work with patients to develop, regain, or maintain normal, or close to normal, functionality needed to perform everyday tasks.
  • Speech-language Pathology: Patients see our speech-language pathologists to get assessed and treated for speech, language, swallowing, voice, and communication disorders.
  • Pediatric Rehabilitation: If you have a child who needs physical, occupational, or speech-language therapy services, Children's Hospital of Georgia treats newborns to young adults.
